Somebody crashed into my car whilst it was parked on the side of the road. I was inside the house having a chat. The Perp knocked on the door and provided all of their details.
Very nice of them – and I won’t go into how on earth they managed to crash into a car that was on the opposite side of the road to them.
Anyway – we call our Insurance Company and they want all relevant details – fair enough.
But then they ask for my Drivers Licence and my Licence Number.
Huh?
Why? No one was in the bloody thing so it’s not like it was being piloted!
When I queried it I was told it was their “process” and was required to process a claim. I suggested if no one was in the vehicle then logically ANY drivers licence would do. Apparently not.
After a few words…. and speaking to a Supervisor, they are now processing the claim without my DL Number.
I fully recognise that this sounds petty – but it’s yet another example of how our privacy gets invaded on a daily basis for absolutely NO justifiable reason.

I bought a HP HW6515. It’s a Windows Mobile Based Cellular with inbuilt GPS.
I immediately started pursuing software to allow for realtime tracking via a web page.
I found
Navizon but there are others that I’ll post about soon.

I am getting fearful that the entire democratic world is turning fascist.
This absurd march towards oppressing the common man through the use of excessive authority is frightening. Where does it stop?
I don’t want to invoke Godwin’s Law on my first real post about this trend, but it does have all the hallmarks of Nazi Germany.
As Deborah Davis found out, it appears you now have to show your identification papers on demand – yet according to the American Constitution thats effectively a search without warrant.
Thankfully the ACLU will be helping Deborah get through this completely ridiculous prosecution.
We already have laws to stop “terrorists”… we don’t need new ones. Unless those new laws actually have a more surrupticious intent.
More on my latent paranoia as news comes to hand.
