What is The Black Diamond Ball? It's a formal, but fun function to support Lifeline WA's HelpME campaign – a campaign designed to prevent suicide by increasing the community’s awareness of what we can do to keep people in crisis safe. Black Diamond will take you on a journey for the senses from a decadent three course meal accompanied by premium beer and wine to mesmerising tailor-made live performances. From the reader to the art critic, the show-goer to the culinary enthusiast – not to mention those who just like to hit the dance floor – it will have you hooked on delight and entertainment from the moment you enter the realm of Black Diamond. This is the Inaugural Black Diamond Ball where we'll be launching HelpMe, a remarkable initiative by Lifeline WA that aims to prevent suicide by addressing the stigma associated with mental illness and providing care to those in need. Take pleasure in being inspired for a worthy cause and purchase your ticket now. You can book online here: http://www.blackdiamondball.com.au/ You can also hear @alison_braun and @perthtones (6PR's Tony Serve) talking about the Black Diamond Ball here: http://tonyserve.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/biggest-losers-alison-braun-tells-us-about-the-black-diamond-ball-to-raise-funds-for-lifelines-help-me-programme/ I'm organising some tables for the "Twitterati". If you're active on Twitter and you'd like to join us – you're most welcome! Simply book via the web site above and mention the "Twitter Table". That'll get you on board with the "In Crowd"! Here's who we have attending so far. (You can hover over the Twitter name for full details!) Confirmed:
Total: 31 That's a total of 31 people making the Twitterati the single largest group. I haven't listed @Desperate_Icon, @CMurph79, @Spawno72 or @claybo76 as they'll be performing for us! Other Twitterati are also attending but don't count towards these numbers as they're Organisers! Many thanks to @Nic_Hayes, @Alison_Braun and @Melissa_Howie. @tiffanyff will also be there as a volunteer. Come and join us – have some fun, a great night out and support an excellent cause! |

No longer on 6PR?

For the last 2 weeks, the second most common search term people type into Google to bring them to my blog is a variant of:
www.google.com.au/search?q=jason+jordan+no+longer+on+6pr
So I figure I should concisely explain in a single blog post why I'm no longer working with 6PR.
Let me start by saying there's no bad blood between us and that it was my decision to go.
Those of you who have followed my blog for a while will know I wear two hats in my working life. In one, I am the owner of PCGURU – a rapidly growing IT Support company. In the other, I am building a profile in the media.
PCGURU is not who I am. It's simply what I am building to eventually free me up enough to follow my dreams of a media career. The media doesn't pay terribly well, so you need to have some other source of income behind you!
I do lots of TV Commercials and Corporate Videos, I am a regular guest on both Sunrise and The Morning Show on Seven, I am currently working with LocoTV on a new series of GeekSpeak for iiNet and I've had roles in everything from Cloud Street through to the AC/DC movie "Thunderstruck". I even write a blog for The West Australian.
To say I love TV, Radio and Film is an understatement.
Over the last 3 years, I have been given lots of wonderful opportunities by 6PR. I presented Weekend Breakfast over the Summer of 2009 and I was asked to do fill-in shifts for Weekday Afternoons. It was fantastic and I felt right at home. The feedback I received was terrific and I have an email folder full of people who emailed to say they enjoyed what I was doing.
Unfortunately it appears my on-air style is not what 6PR is chasing right now. It's their right and prerogative to determine who goes on-air and it seems they don't feel I am the right stuff for their demographic.
I'm not angry about this – just frustrated.
I am endlessly thankful to 6PR for the opportunities they did give me – but I am not willing to simply be the Tech Talkback Guru who's on once a week to solve problems.
I want more. I want a career in radio and television and I'm not prepared to sit quietly in a pigeon-hole.
Once I discovered 6PR didn't require my hosting services, I put the word out to see if there would be opportunities for me elsewhere. It seems my reputation precedes me somewhat….
I am now doing tech commentary at the ABC and I'm looking forward to whatever other opportunities Aunty may have for me.
I'm also going to be filming a new series of Geek Speak for iiNet as well as hosting a new current affairs TV Show on West TV.
But I can't get away from my love of talkback. So I'm currently in discussions with West TV over the concept of doing a weekly LIVE talkback TV show. I know it's been tried before in the Eastern States some years back – but not here in Perth. I hear there are similar shows that work really well in Europe.
Anyway, I'm hoping that one day 6PR may reconsider their opinion and I'll have the opportunity once more to entertain, goad, argue and laugh with the wonderful audience who love talkback as much as I do.
If you'd like to get in touch with 6PR to let them know your thoughts, you can contact them here: http://www.6pr.com.au/contact-us.html
If you'd like to drop me a line to tell me what you think, you can do so here: http://www.jasonjordan.com.au/contact/

TV Show Proposal: Got My Vote

I figured I might as well document it here and see how people feel about it.
Proposed Name: Got My Vote
Proposed Website: www.gotmyvote.com
Pitch:
A Panel of up to 6 relevant people with Anchor and Studio Audience ala ABC's "Q&A" but with live webcam, skype, twitter, telephone, studio & viewing audience participation.
The fundamental difference being a web-based live voting system for all viewers where "The Worm" is live on the screen throughout the entire show. This will of course require registration to reduce the effect of "gaming the worm".
It's "The Worm" that gives rise to the name of the production "Got My Vote". Everything discussed on the show will be judged by the audience. I like to think of it as "Talkback Radio with Pictures".
The first truly democratic television production where viewers can actively participate by influencing the overall direction of the worm in real time.
This is particularly well suited to Community TV and would also foster an active audience who could participate through the week at the gotmyvote.com forum.

I'm testing out a new poll/survey tool for my blog. I figure a popular poll will be a political one.
